Post-Game Questions
Questions are a powerful tool to engage participants, assess their understanding, and gather valuable feedback.
Whether you're using Zensimu for educational or corporate training purposes, this feature allows you to create surveys or quizzes tailored to your Beer Game (supply chain) or Lean Game sessions' goals.
In this article:
Enable and Setup Questions
You can add and customize questions for each game round. To do so, open the Debriefing Settings at the bottom of a round configuration:
As soon as players finished a game (when reaching the final "week" in the Beer Game, or when the timer is finished in the Lean Game), they will reach the questionnaire. See an example below:
By default, the debriefing content (KPIs and evolution charts) is hidden until players submit their responses. But you can also decide the show the debriefing content together with the questionnaire, if players need to find answers through the game stats.
Different Question types
Single-Choice
Participants need to choose a single answer among a selection you defined. The responses are expressed as a bar chart to see which options received more votes. Hover on a bar to see who answered what.
Multiple-Choice
Participants can check multiple possibilities from a selection of answers you predefined. It is also represented as a bar chart.
Text
Here participants can write a free-text answer. When viewing the results, you can optionally hover on the "view user" icon to see who gave a specific answer.
Draw the Demand (Beer Game only)
Participants can try to represent the final demand by drawing using their mouse or touchpad. In this case, when it is time to debrief the student submissions, you can display entries compared with the actual demand profile:
View and Discuss Responses
You can monitor how many participants submitted their responses from the Session Follow-up:
Once everyone submitted their answers, access them via the Responses tab of your session:
When the same question was asked in several Game Rounds, the results will be visible side-by-side. Here is an example where we can see that players felt much more confident in the second round:
You can also download the responses on Excel.
Quiz Mode
You can choose to make your Questions into a Quiz. You then need to select one or several correct answers for each question. You can optionally give a number of points per correct answer, that can serve as a grade for the students.
In case of Multiple Choice, players need to select all the correct options, but no more. In case of Text question, the answer is considered correct if it fits (with a few characters tolerance) one of the possibilities you entered.
In the Questions settings, you can also allow players to see the correct answers right after their submission, here is how it looks:
Questions Examples
Find below some inspiration for your own training games. Don't hesitate to let us know if you have other suggestions!
Beer Game (supply chain)
- How confident did you feel during the game? (Single-Choice 1-5) - An easy way to get the general impression of players. This KPI generally improves in the second round as players can view all the stock/order information.
- What was the biggest challenge in this round? (Text) - Let players share their difficulties, such as: lack of visibility, supplier not responding, long lead times..
- What could we do to improve performance? (Text) - Here participants could evoke better information-sharing,
- What was the main source of cost? (Multiple Choice) - Could be Stock, Backorder, or even both as the chain alternates between stockout and overstock situations.
- Try drawing the final demand applied at the first role (Draw Demand) - A good way to show the distortion in the demand signal when moving upstream the supply chain.
Lean Game
- Did you feel busy during the game? 1=not at all, 5= very busy(Single-Choice 1-5)
- What difficulties did you face during this round? (Text) - Could be for example: difficulty to paint at the right positions and avoid defects, to keep up with the work to be done, or not enough work.
- Can you identify some sources of waste? (Text) - units waiting, rework, transportation..
- How could we improve the operations? (Text) - to see if some participants already have some suggestions for improvements.
If you activate the results stats together with the Questionnaire, you may ask for more specific information:
- Has your workshop made any profit ? (Single Choice) - Yes/No/Not sure,
- What was the main source of cost? (Multiple Choice) - Could be Work-in-Process, Rework, Late delivery penalties..
- How could we deliver even more products on-time? (Text) - Answers could include painting units faster, less reworks, reducing the transportation time between stations..
- Was the work well balanced between stations, if not which station could be considered the bottleneck? (Text)
- Did one station have more WIP on average, than others? (Multiple Choice)
- Can you suggest some examples of Waste? (Text)
- How could we reduce these waste and improve performance? (Text)
