Lean tool - Jidoka (auto-inspect work)
Jidoka is also called "autonomation" (contraction of autonomy and automation). It consists in detecting anomalies in a process as soon as they occur, to correct them and modify the process accordingly.
It is an evolution vs. traditional production units, where a quality control station is present at the end of the process.
Jidoka prevents issues from being carried through the production process, where they may generate even more defects. It also avoids value to be added to a product that would need to scrapped anyways.
In the game, with the Jidoka improvement, you can allow all painting stations to detect errors and remove the defectuous paints.
See how it looks on the workdesk:
As all painting stations can now correct their own defects, you can then use the Quality / Rework stations at the end to help with processing the operations and remove pressure on the bottlenecks.
Expected results:
- Quicker correction of defects as stations can directly remove and re-paint without changing tool,
- Helps with balancing the workload as Quality and Rework are not needed anymore
