Lean tool - One piece flow

The one-piece flow method is typically contrasted with batch production. It consists of reducing lot size or having a lot size of 1. This means that as soon as a product is processed, it can be sent to the next station to continue being processed.

The downside of this tool can be of losing "effects of scale". However it makes the operations more reactive and flexible.

As a player you can implement one-piece flow by reducing the batch size (by default it is 4):

Expected results:

  • Less waiting time,
  • Reduced WIP,
  • More flexibility and reactivity,
  • Improved service level
